GraphicallySpeaking1: Understanding Different Graphic File Types
GraphicallySpeaking2: Understanding Creative Commons

A Note on Citing Multi-Media in School Reports and Term Papers:

  • This is the Hempfield School District recommended format!
  • Place the image/media's URL centered and immediately following the image/resource in the project. (To determine the URL of the image/resource, click on the image/resource. If the image/resource opens in a new webpage by itself, use this URL. If the image/resource is linked to another website or nothing happens when clicked, use the URL of the Webpage the image/resource was found on. When using the Google Image search make sure you remove the Google frame. The Google URL (webaddress) is NOT used!)

  • A citation for the webpage or the source of the image MUST ALSO be included in the "Works Cited" page of the project.

Other Internet Websites with Visual Resources

Warning1: Several of these databases are commercial and will have ads none of which are endorsed by the creator of this website. Most Internet filers cannot block inappropriate pictures in these databases so students using these websites should proceed with caution.
Warning2: Not all of the images on the Internet can be used in school projects and students must take the time and effort to find copyright and usage guidelines on the websites that they find pictures they want to use. Due to the difficulty of obtaining such information it is recommended that the above subscription databases be used to obtain graphics first and then branch out to the Internet searching for "Creative Commons" websites that clearly specify rights and permissions for graphics contained therein before using the following resources.

Clip Art!

Graphics and Photographs!
