Students should limit words on pages to ONLY a few words. Ten words is probably too much. Reminder: Podcasting focus is on the Audio not the Visual. The visual aspect in Garage Band can be considered a bonus. If visual is the focus it is recommended that this be done in iMovie.

    Have students complete PowerPoint.
Toward end of period demo and direct students on saving their PowerPoint slides in JPEG format. These JPEGs will automatically be saved with "Slide1", "Slide 2" titles unless students have given them alternative titles.

Recommendation1: As an alternative to book covers take apicture of each student holding his or her book. (I researched the legality of using book cover images that are found in our OPACs and Amazon and found out there is a debate over the copyrights of such book cover images.) These student images could then be placed on a wiki page or in a shared Google Docs file for easy "click&drag" student retrieval. Students who do not have signed RUPs for photos could take a photo of the book lying on a table or other such placement.
Recommendation2: Encourage students to create their own images. This cuts down on lengthy bibliographic citation time.

Students who take their own images with digital cameras, make their own images digitally, or draw&scan will not have to cite images. These students must find a way to transfer their created images between home and school. Some of our students emailed photos to the Reading teacher, others used Moodle, and others brought in their cells phones and cameras. (Remind students bringing in cameras to also bring their camera's USB cord.) Students and teachers could also use Google Apps to transfer images. Hempfield has Google Apps for Educators and each student in the school has an account.

Introduce basics of PowerPoint. Students should create the slides in PowerPoint in the order they want them to appear in the Podcast. Make sure each slide retains a 1 to 1 1/2 inch margin around the slide. Suggest solid color background on each slide.
